The Moorhennies Trail North Circuit invites visitors to discover nature, history and storytelling along its scenic route through the landscape near Poggenhagen. Thirty-one large and small information boards line the path, providing fascinating insights into the cultural and natural environment of the region. Each stop reveals a new perspective, blending education with the tranquillity of the moorland. The trail also offers an acoustic experience: by scanning the QR codes on the boards, visitors can listen to recorded stories told by contemporary witnesses, bringing the past vividly to life. This blend of digital media and open-air exploration makes the trail a unique experience for both individual explorers and groups. Named after the 1903 story “Moorhennies” by Neustadt publisher Wilhelm Sicius, the trail recalls times when the moor and the River Leine formed the dramatic backdrop of the Thirty Years’ War. The “Moorkrug”, located at Station 8 on the southern route, marks the narrative centre of the tale. Created by the Poggenhagen Cultural and Beautification Association in cooperation with local environmental and angling groups, the Moorhennies Trail is a tribute to regional heritage and community engagement. Supported by the environmental lottery BINGO, the Hanover region and the town of Neustadt am Rübenberge, it combines history, nature and innovation into one inspiring outdoor experience.
