Whilst in the national parks, its quite clear that the animal and plant worlds come first, in the nature parks, residents and visitors are given higher priority. In the natural parks it is the meeting of man with nature and the countryside that is at the fore. The East Frisians love their wind-blown coast, the islands, the people of Wendland their river Elbe, the river meadows and heathland. And we're more than happy to share this wonderful countryside with our visitors for walking, cycling, riding or water sports. Which allows the conservation and protection of the rural environment to be combined perfectly with the needs of people looking for a bit of relaxation.
But it's not just about the countryside in the natural parks - what's just as important are the rich sites bearing witness to the culture and history of each region. Whether its archaeological finds of early human settlement, traces of dinosaurs, megalithic burial sites and barrows or picturesque half-timbered towns, restored barns and imposing farm buildings, castles, renaissance stately homes and picturesque villages, you'll be pleasantly surprised by what Niedersachsen has to offer by way of historical and cultural treasures.
