Lütetsburg Castle Park - Poetry in green
“An age-old castle overlooking the sand: a magnificent park in treeless land…”. As a guest in Lütetsburg in 1882, Theodor Fontane was one of many to be inspired to write poetry about the great outdoors. The Lütetsburg Castle Park, the life work of a poetic and art-minded person, presents itself to you as one of the biggest and indeed most beautiful private English landscapegardens in Ostfriesland.
It is a rare work of art and during every season reveals its special magic. The landscape park of 1790 was created in an early romantic style and is one of the few preserved examples of its kind on the European continent. Located only approx. 8 km south of the tidal flat coast of Ostfriesland are the biggest private German landscape gardens on an area of 300,000 m².
As well as more than 150 different types of tree and bushes, countless historical buildings, bridges and park benches with the most varied of inscriptions also attract visitors. A particular highlight is the rhododendron and azalea blooms from May to June or the open air religious service on Ascension Day.
Tip: In the park itself you can hire different items for your wedding or event! The castle is privately inhabited and can not be viewed.
