UNESCO World Heritage

Worldwide, UNESCO awards the most precious cultural sites known to mankind the title "world heritage". In Niedersachsen, there are two world heritage sites in close vicinity – the romantic architecture of Hildesheim and the wonderful old city centre as well as the mine Rammelsberg in Goslar.

UNESCO World Heritage in Hildesheim

Like no other city in Niedersachsen, Hildesheim has got its good national as well as international reputation thanks to its culture. In 1985, Hildesheim had already two monuments incl. their art treasures added to the list of world heritage sites by UNESCO: St. Michael, one of the most beautiful early Romanesque churches in Germany, and the cathedral with its impressive bronze casts. more
