Hann. Münden Guelph's Castle
The Guelph Castle of Hann. Münden was completed on an old fort site in 1501 by Duke Erich I. von Braunschweig-Lüneburg in a Gothic style. After a fire in 1560 it was rebuilt by Duke Erich II. in the style of the Weser Renaissance.
Nowadays in the Guelph Castle, there are event rooms, the library, city archive and the City Museum, one of the oldest of its kind in Niedersachsen. Worth a look here are the products by the Münden Fayence manufacturer from the Hanstein family (1753–1854), which is famous for its magnificent net vases. The permanent exhibition revolves around the history of the city and displays exhibits on long-distance trade, land and shipping traffic, archaeology, timber framework, middle-class life and sculptures by Gustav Eberlein.
Tip: Two ducal apartments with unique frescoes from the Renaissance can be visited as part of guided tours, also with a lady from the court of Duchess Elisabeth. The tourist information office will be happy to advise you.
